What the Turks and Caicos Flag Tells Us
The flag of the Turks and Caicos Islands was adopted in 1968. It has a Union Jack on the top left to let us know that the Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Territory. The Union Jack has been the flag of Britain since 1801 and it appears within many world flags of the British Commonwealth and British Territories.

Most people travelling to the Island of Providenciales have some difficulty with the long hard to pronounce name which is usually shortened to Provo, but when it is, there can be confusion with Provo, Utah a well known American ski resort area. So people who fly to Providenciales for a Grace Bay vacation, tend to say they are going to Turks and Caicos, which is like saying I am going to the United States rather than saying they are going to New York City or Miami Beach.

Grace Bay Beach on the Island of Providenciales (known as Provo), in the Turks and Caicos Islands, is generally considered to be the best or one of the best beaches in the world. In 2016 Trip Advisor rated Grace Bay the number one beach in the world and in 2017 it was number two to a beach in Brazil.

I first came to Turks and Caicos in December 2004 and fell in love with the Grace Bay area. Provo was not well known and it seemed that it was mostly divers and British people who visited. My son got his diving license just before the trip so he could take advantage of the clear water sea life views. There were very few flights and they cost much more than they do now. We stayed just past the island’s first resort Club Med, at Ocean Club East which was then the end of the developed beach.
Our Top 5 Restaurants at Provo
The island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos has many great and even more very good restaurants. We have not tried them all and we find it difficult to rank them. There are certainly more of them that are worthy of inclusion on a top ten list where five more are added below our top five. We do not give reasons and you should try them and see for yourself. Reasonable priced dining can be found in Providenciales
Many visitors return again and again to Provo for the restaurants and there is certainly a lot of excellent food served on the island. There are quite a few great expensive restaurants at Grace Bay, and we outlined some of them in our previous post listing the 10 best, with cost not being a factor. There were a few less expensive ones listed with them, but they are all places with great ambience, service and food where you get what you pay for and pay for what you get.
